Entry Level

About Branch:

Branch is shaking up the $46B office furniture industry to create an office experience for the 21st century: easy, affordable and flexible so you can sit down (or stand) and get to work.

We're based in NYC and backed by the investors behind household brands like Carta, Caraway and Peloton. Our founders arrive with experience in partnerships, real estate acquisitions and venture building at leading real estate companies like Oxford Properties, SL Green and Redfin.

We’re an ambitious group of problem solvers innovating across software, design and logistics, and we’re looking for entrepreneurial teammates who like a challenge.

The Role

We are seeking a highly creative and talented Associate Industrial [Furniture] Designer to join our dynamic team to help revolutionize office furniture design. As an Associate Industrial Designer, you will be responsible for conceptualizing and creating innovative designs for office furniture pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and promote comfort, productivity, and well-being.

You’ll partner with the furniture team on initial designs, development, launch, and ongoing improvements of beautiful, functional, and accessible office products for our consumer, enterprise, and wholesale business lines.

The ideal candidate has a deep appreciation for design, is eager to hit the ground running in a fast paced startup, and is passionate about creating something innovative.

In your first ninety days at Branch, you will ramp up and learn the ins and outs of all new and continuous improvement projects in motion. In collaboration with the Head of Furniture Design, you will support multiple design-led projects that will help establish Branch’s burgeoning design language and create meaningful impact to the growing portfolio of furniture products.

This is an incredible opportunity to help build the furniture design function at a category-defining, well-funded, and rapidly-growing startup. If you're truly passionate about exceptional design and want to improve the objects we interact with for eight plus hours a day, we’d love to meet you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and support the launch of new furniture products and existing product improvements across seating, desking, storage, accessory, and packaging categories
  • Generate sketches, renderings, models, prototypes, and presentations to effectively communicate design concepts to the broader team
  • Design and maintain support materials for all products; assembly guides, packaging dielines, product specifications, etc.
  • Develop comprehensive product spec packs that initiate prototyping and development processes
  • Collaborate closely with product development, sourcing, digital product, and operations teams throughout the development and product launch process
  • Participate in quantitative and qualitative research studies to understand customer needs and industry trends that will influence future product designs

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design (BID) or a similar field
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience at a design-led product company, or product development consultancy, ideally in the furniture space
  • Proven experience designing, developing, and ideally shipping exceptional products that users love
  • Strong passion for researching, sketching, 3D modeling, rendering, prototyping, and storytelling design ideas
  • Experience with furniture related products (or products of similar scale) that interact with humans and the larger built environment.
  • Experience and working knowledge of furniture related materials, processes, and manufacturing methods
  • Impeccable design, color, and curation sensibilities
  • Superlative attention to every product detail (form, comfort, color, materiality, assembly, packaging, and more) combined with the ability to know how much a customer is willing to pay
  • Proficient in translating feedback into actionable design workflows with little guidance
  • Ability to translate conceptual designs into dimensioned drawings/CAD that can be prototyped by an international supplier
  • Capable of utilizing both the right and left brain for both highly creative and process oriented tasks, you make genius repeatable
  • Passion for office furniture design, staying informed about evolving trends/standards, ergonomic trends, materials, emerging technologies, and user needs in the workplace
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable working in gray areas, with a strong bias for action, and a thirst to learn
  • Fluent in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, and Google suite
  • Eligible to work in the US with valid citizenship or work authorization
  • This position is open to candidates in San Francisco and NYC where Branch has showrooms/offices, as well as all other candidates across the US who would work remotely.
